CoPilot Training Feedback – The Highlights
Background
Since March 2026 I have been delivering basic CoPilot training to Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) staff. The hour-long sessions were based on a mix of Susan Smith’s (JET Library, Mid Cheshire Trust) slides and those of Dr Tim Zijlstra (NHS Tayside) and my own content. Thanks to you both for sharing your slides and the permission to reuse them.
The sessions covered a brief history of AI, types of AI, and demystified how Generative AI, such as Copilot, worked. A healthy dose of sustainability and ethics were thrown in, as well as example prompts and uses of AI as these were identified as areas of interest by the AI Community of Interest in my organisation.
After around 4 sessions were delivered to 33 participants, I gathered the feedback together that I’d accumulated to find out how helpful or not the course had been to the staff who attended. Feedback was completed by 14 participants.
What went well?
The majority reported that the course was either useful or very useful, with the training helping to counter hesitation with using CoPilot and raised awareness of what CoPilot could be used for. The training improved reported understanding, awareness, and confidence with CoPilot.
Participants reported increased awareness of the secure use of CoPilot using the Trust’s licenced version (LYPFT allows patient information to be used in CoPilot as long as it is the secure version). They also felt able to write better prompts and generate higher quality outputs. Anxiety around the use of CoPilot was reduced.
What could have been better?
Participants fed back that more practical experience would be helpful, and live demos. Some felt that the session ran too fast.
What next?
Future sessions will incorporate live demos and practice time. There was a mixture of knowledge among the participants, with some giving feedback that they would like a deeper dive into effective prompting techniques and personalisation. With this in mind, I would like to develop sessions to support a progression from basic to more advanced use to develop confidence over time.
