Hello from Sophia at Leeds Community
Hi, I’m Sophia (So-f-I-ah), and I’m the new starter at LCH library!
I joined Leeds Community Healthcare at the end of April this year, and this is my first ever library job so I’m finding it very exciting. From stamping due dates to cataloguing, each day is full of new lessons!
I’m coming from a BA degree in History of Art with Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds, and going from being a library user to a being a library practitioner has been more fulfilling than I could have imagined. I’m very glad to have my literature searching experience – I’m now getting to grips with searching on OVID.

Here I am with an ancient Peruvian woven tapestry – the topic of my undergraduate dissertation!
While in our stock there aren’t as many pictures as in the books I read at university, it’s brilliant to see how the knowledge and library services support staff in the NHS, and it feels great to be contributing to health care in the UK.
I’m incredibly lucky to be working with the amazing, endlessly supportive Helen Swales and Hannah Williams, who never hesitate to answer a silly question or teach me left from right in library-land.
Hoping for a long career in libraries and information.
